The standard that is used to assess the competence of Inspection Bodies, ISO/IEC 17020 has been revised.  The new version of ISO/IEC 17020:2012 Conformity Assessment – Requirements for the operation of variou stypes of bodies performing inspection was published by ISO on 1 March 2012.  UKAS will announce the transition arrangements on the UKAS website, www.ukas.com,  in due course and will also communicate these directly to inspection bodies.  It is anticpated that UKAS will follow the trnsition timescales set by ILAC and, whilst these have yet to be confimed, it is expected ythat a period of up to 3 years could be allowed.
