ADSC September 2026 Update

The meeting was attended by stakeholders in the amusement industry including (alphabetical order) ADIPS, Amusement Catering Equipment Society (ACES), Association of Independent Showman (AIS), BACTA (the association for coin slots), Butlins (large stakeholder), NAFLIC (the association for industry testers), PIPA (the inflatable testing scheme), Showman’s Guild of Great Britian, Society of Independent Roundabout Proprietors (SIRP).

The dropping of the HSE draft of HSG175 was the big talking point and its content cropped up many times as we went through the many agenda items.

The start of the meeting is the ADIPS Update where we hear the stats. The ADIPS DOC issuing figures are solid and showing steady with historical ones. This is good as it shows showmen and parks etc are following good safety practices.

There is also a steady stream of new devices onto the scheme which shows good confidence of the industry buying new equipment.

ADIPS is changing the way it processes its DOC issuing system in 2027. So, part of the meeting was an update of the new process.

Pole Star and will be offering their new Asset Nest facility. Aimed at controllers, this is like a filing cabinet where controllers can keep all the documents relating to each ride/device.

We will be publicising more about this in the coming months.

Technical Bulletins.

ADIPS, NAFLIC, PIPA and other Bodies provide technical safety bulletins for the industry. These essential reads provide updates where issues have been found.

ADIPS has created a library of relevant ones for our industry which can be accessed via membership. The library is not available for public view. It is assumed that any bulletins will be shared via the inspection body’s knowledge of which controllers have the various devices. So, an IB may pass a controller something they need to address.

An example of this is a recent HSE notice regarding the wheel assemblies of Guven Juvenile Coasters issued in August 2026. There were two notices, one for controllers, one for IB’s. If you know anyone that may be affected by this. Controller’s, please contact us if this applies to you and we can pass the documents on.

There was also an update from the ADIPS auditors who go out and check the ADIPS registered IB’s. They reported that auditing is going well and that IB’s are learning from their visits. Which all makes us a safety community.

ADIPS Newsletters.

There are three newsletters that ADIPS circulates, Controllers, IB’s and Coin-op. All that have an ADIPS ID receive the relevant ones they subscribe to.

PIPA Update.

Now that PIPA are at the ADSC forum, it benefits from an update from them about inflatables. The PIPA scheme is in the process of obtaining UKAS accreditation and they gave an update on this. Their route chosen is 17020 where it is the person rather than the scheme that complies.

They also have a valuable Hub, that is free to join where there is a growing collection of documents and training. Just get your free PIPA membership to get these.

They are also proactively engaging with EHO’s.

New training courses for controllers are due to be added to the PIPA Hub in October 2026 for Inflatable Operator Training, and Inflatable Attendant Training and Inflatable Controller Training in 2027.

PIPA Inflatable Safety Charter

PIPA is due to launch and advertise an inflatable safety charter for owners and controllers of inflatables to sign up to. The charter expresses a series of commitments to safety with an overview below. The idea is to push the onus of responsibility back onto inflatable owners due to misconceptions and misunderstandings within the inflatable industry.
